Silvery Moon (detail)
2004
24w X 20h'
Silvery Moon became a representational work when I hung my specially colored hand dyed cotton cloth on my design wall and saw a horizon line.
Many layers of fabric paint, shimmering fabrics, and netting were added.
Metallic thread using both hand and machine embroidery
developed the narrative.
Hand beading embellishes the sky
aiding the moonlight reflections through the lower trees.
In the PAQA tradition of encouraging the members to explore new territory,
this seventh PAQA challenge explored a single color.
The requirements were simple.
Each participant was randomly assigned a color.
Quilts had to "read" that color and be no larger than 24" per side.
Happily my assigned color was a favorite, purple.
